ATLANTA, GA, December 7, 2006 -
Srixon Staff Professionals Alex Cejka and Jaco Van Zyl earned their
2007 PGA Tourcardsat thePGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament in La Quinta,
CA. Both players endured 6 rounds at PGA West Stadium and the Jack
Nicklaus Tournament Course. Both were armed with Srixon’s
high-performance golf balls and equipment to gain full playing
privileges on the PGA Tour for the 2007 season.
Cejka played with Srixon’s Z-URC golf ball and Srixon I-302 irons to
finish tied for 22nd with a 10-under par, 422 total
(74-70-66-73-71-68). Starting the day at 6-under par and 2 shots
outside the qualifying number, Cejka displayed the grit and
determination that has made him a multiple winner on the European Tour
and a 4-year veteran of the PGA Tour in firing a final round 68 on the
brutally difficult PGA West Stadium Course. His 10-under par total was
2 shots clear of the eventual qualifying score of 8-under par.
South African Van Zyl, armed with Srixon’s Z-URS golf ball, W-506
driver, I-302 irons and prototype wedges, was the talk of the final
round by carding a blistering 8-under par 64—the lowest round of the
day—to finish tied for 29th and earn his card on the number. Of all
the players who played their way into their tour cards the final day,
Van Zyl made by far the biggest move jumping an astounding 46 positions
from tied for 75th to a tie for 29th. His final round included birdies
on three of the final four holes capped off by a tricky 20 foot
downhill birdie putt on his 18th hole which rolled in dead center. He
carded an 8-under par, 424 total (76-70-72-71-71-64). Though he had no
status on any U.S. tour in 2006, Van Zyl managed to Monday qualify
several times on the Nationwide Tour and ended up making 5 of 7 cuts
with a Top 10 finish. He is a 4-year veteran of the Sunshine Tour in
South Africa and finished in the Top 10 on the Order of Merit in both
2005 and 2006.
