ATLANTA, GA, January 9, 2006 -
Playing in his first event with after switching to Srixon equipment,
Srixon Staff Professional Jim Furyk collected third place at the PGA
TOUR's season opener Mercedes Championships at Kapalua's Plantation
Course in Maui, Hawaii on Sunday, January 8, 2006. Furyk, who shot a
4-under par 288 total, played with Srixon's new Z-UR prototype golf
ball and forged wedges in the windy and difficult conditions to shoot 4
consecutive rounds of 1-under par 72.
"As confident
and secure as I was in switching to Srixon, the real tests always come
in the heat of competition against great players," said Furyk. "In the
tough, windy conditions we had at Kapalua all week, the new ball
performed beautifully. I hit it pin-high all week with my irons, and
was able to play a lot of delicate shots to get it close on the newly
rebuilt, firm fast greens. This gives me that much more confidence
heading into the rest of the season," added Furyk.
Furyk is the 7th ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Also
at the Mercedes, Srixon Staff Professional Tim Petrovic who gained
entry into this winners-only field via his victory at the 2005 Zurich
Classic of New Orleans fired a final round 1-under par 72 to finish in
a tie for 11th place. He finished 45th on the 2005 PGA Tour money list.
